STEPHEN KING FROM KINROSS JAILED FOR ASSAULT AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE AND DITCH CRASH

A man from Kinross, Stephen King, has been sentenced to prison after a series of violent and reckless actions involving his former partner, Jessica McMillan. The incident, which took place on January 31 this year, initially involved allegations of abduction and a dangerous high-speed drive through the Kinross-shire countryside. However, after a two-day trial at Perth Sheriff Court, the jury decided to reduce the original charge of kidnapping to one of assault, and King was found guilty of dangerous driving.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis addressed the court and emphasized the gravity of the case. He explained that if King had been convicted of abduction, he would have faced a significantly longer period of imprisonment. Nevertheless, the sheriff made it clear that the assault charge was serious in its own right. Sheriff Foulis stated, “What I am left with is an assault on your former partner. As a result of that behaviour, not surprisingly, you lost control of the car – it left the carriageway and veered towards, but not over, the central line, then went into the verge.”

He further noted that despite the reduction in charges, the incident remained serious. The sheriff expressed concern over King’s attitude, indicating that it appeared unchanged and unrepentant. As part of his sentence, King was ordered to serve eight months in prison. Additionally, he was banned from driving for two years and must pass an extended driving test before regaining his license.

Jessica McMillan, aged 27, provided testimony that painted a disturbing picture of the events. She recounted attempting to escape from King’s vehicle as he drove along the road connecting Kinross to Kincardine. She described how King had forcibly dragged her back into the car, which then crashed into a ditch while she was still inside. During the chaos, her hair extensions were ripped out, and King drove off again, leaving her stranded.

The police eventually stopped King’s vehicle, which was a gold-colored Volvo. Officers, suspicious of the driver, noted that the car appeared to be an “old man’s car” and decided to intervene. Footage from an unmarked police car captured the moment King’s vehicle was halted. At that point, Ms. McMillan ran towards the officers, and they found her hair extensions on the floor of the vehicle.

King attempted to justify his actions by claiming that the hair extensions had fallen out naturally and that Ms. McMillan had been saving them to reattach later. He also stated that she had packed several extensions when she left his house following an argument. Despite these claims, the court convicted King of assaulting Jessica McMillan and of dangerous driving, specifically crashing into a ditch during the journey between Kinross High Street and the A977 road.

The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of the offences committed by Stephen King, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving and violence against a former partner in the Kinross area.
