OLDHAM MAN WHO STABBED HIS PARTNER IN HER NECK WILL SPEND LONGER IN PRISON
A man named Stephen John Turnock, aged 40, violently attacked his partner over a two-day period. The incident began on the afternoon of Saturday, 15 May 2021, at their home on Clyde Street, Watersheddings.
The altercation included Turnock flipping over a kitchen table, chasing the victim upstairs, striking her in the face, and cutting her left hand with a knife as she attempted to defend herself.
He continued to beat her until he calmed down.
The following morning, Turnock inflicted further injuries by stabbing her multiple times, including to the neck and chest, and calling her a 'slag'.
He also threw objects at her, such as an iron, an Xbox, and a bottle, sprayed deodorant into her mouth, shaved her hair off with clippers, damaged her clothes with a knife, and broke her mobile phone.
After leaving the scene, the victim contacted the police and was found with multiple injuries, including four stab wounds to the neck and chest and a laceration requiring surgery.
Turnock was originally sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for wounding with intent at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on August 16, 2021, with a restraining order imposed.
However, following a referral by the Solicitor General to the Court of Appeal, his sentence was increased to 7 years and 6 months on October 21, 2021, due to it being unduly lenient.
The Solicitor General described the attack as "a shocking and cowardly attack on a defenceless woman" and expressed satisfaction that the sentence was increased.
