SHREWSBURY POLICE OFFICER CAUGHT STALKING EX AFTER TWISTED VENGEANCE
A married police officer who admitted stalking a woman after their relationship ended has been given a suspended sentence.
Stephen Green, aged 60, falsely reported that the woman had breached Covid-19 rules.
District Judge Graham Wilkinson stated he believed Green was motivated by "some twisted vengeance".
Green was sentenced to six months in jail, suspended for two years, having previously pleaded guilty to stalking that caused serious alarm or distress.
During the period from 1 November last year to 9 January, Green, from Shrewsbury, sent multiple messages and flowers to his former partner.
Additionally, he instructed another man to report her and her new partner for a drink-driving offence, and arranged for police checks at their addresses, including her mother's.
Green, who was based at Shrewsbury Police Station, had an affair with the victim for four years, ending in August 2020.
He began stalking her after she started a new relationship, which caused her to sell her home.
The court noted that Green's behavior was unprofessional and motivated by twisted vengeance.
He was also ordered to carry out 30 rehabilitation activity days, 200 hours of unpaid work, and was subject to a 10-year restraining order preventing contact with his victims.
Furthermore, Green was required to pay £500 in compensation to his ex-partner, £250 to her new partner, and contribute £150 towards prosecution costs along with a £128 victim surcharge.
