LANCASHIRE MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR WIFE’S BRUTAL MURDER
Stephen Green, 52 years old, was convicted of murdering his wife, Carole Green, aged 57, at their residence in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. The verdict was delivered by a jury at Preston Crown Court after a week-long trial, which concluded in only 75 minutes.
Green was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years.
The court heard that Green carried out a knife attack, stabbing Mrs.
Green about 100 times, a crime that was reportedly motivated by his constant criticism of her card-playing skills and his heavy drinking habits.
The relationship between the couple was described as volatile, with frequent arguments and emotional abuse, including Green making vicious remarks in front of friends at the bridge club where they met.
Green argued that he was drunk at the time and that he accidentally fell on her with a knife, but evidence showed that he remained in the flat with her body for three days after the murder.
On the evening of her death, Mrs.
Green had asked for a divorce.
Her family expressed their grief and condemned Green’s defense, which they said was filled with lies, criticizing his lack of remorse and concern for the facts.
Detective Inspector Andy Murphy noted that the case was an example of how domestic violence can escalate to murder, highlighting Green's inability to accept their breakup and his rage fueled by alcohol as key factors leading to the tragic outcome.
