LIVERPOOL DAD AVOIDS JAIL AFTER STRANGLING PARTNER BEFORE MUM'S FUNERAL
A Liverpool man, Stephen Brown, 34, of Drake Street in St Helens, admitted to intentionally strangling his partner Rebecca Jackson during an argument on December 28 last year. The incident occurred as Ms Jackson was cleaning up after their youngest child was sick.
Brown grabbed her by the neck, leaving her struggling to breathe and begging to be spared, saying “You’re going to kill me.” The police found Ms Jackson crying and distressed when they arrived.
She initially hesitated in speaking to police, but later expressed frustration that Brown hadn’t helped with household chores or childcare.
During police interviews, Brown said he couldn’t fully recall the incident but remembered Ms Jackson telling him to “stop trying to f***ing choke me,” and believed she wouldn’t lie about it.
The court was told there was family pressure at the time, with his mother’s funeral scheduled for the following day.
Brown, who has no previous convictions, was sentenced by Recorder Martine Snowdon to a 12-month community order with up to 25 days of rehabilitation and fined £100.
The judge called the case “a great shame” and noted Brown had “blew up and frightened her” in difficult circumstances, but she considered his early guilty plea and family context in her decision.
