PRIMARY SCHOOL HEADTEACHER CHARGED WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN OFFENCES
The headteacher of a primary school has been formally accused of offenses involving indecent images of minors.Matthew Hargreaves, who was the head at King's Northway Primary Academy in Wavertree, Liverpool, was detained and charged with three counts of creating indecent images of children and one count of taking such images.
These charges involve producing, downloading, storing, and viewing illegal images, with a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
Details of the specific allegations have not been publicly revealed.
Shane Ierston, the chief executive of Great Schools Trust, indicated that Hargreaves was suspended immediately following his arrest, and clarified that the allegations are not connected to his role at the school.
Merseyside Police confirmed that Hargreaves, 47 years old and living in Rochdale, faces multiple charges related to indecent images categorized as A, B, and C.
He is currently in custody and awaiting his court hearing, while online child abuse investigators continue their inquiries.
In response, the school has removed all references to him from its website and social media accounts.
It is noted that Hargreaves has been serving as principal since 2019, and the school has approximately 420 students.
Authorities stressed the importance of reporting sexual abuse and urged the public to avoid sharing information that might hinder ongoing investigations.
