STEPHEN BOYD SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN WELTON NEAR LINCOLN
In a case that has shocked the community of Welton near Lincoln, Stephen Boyd, aged 52, was convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of two young schoolgirls over a span of five years. The Lincoln Crown Court heard harrowing details of the offences, which included multiple counts of rape, attempted rape, indecent assault, indecency with a child, and engaging in sexual activity with a minor.Despite Boyd’s vehement denial of the charges, the jury found him guilty after a thorough trial. The evidence presented painted a disturbing picture of manipulation and grotesque behaviour, which ultimately led to his conviction on 16 separate counts. Boyd, who resides on Rivehall Avenue in Welton, was handed a severe sentence on Friday, October 14, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
In addition to the lengthy prison term, Boyd was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders register for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities post-release. Furthermore, he was subjected to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order, aimed at safeguarding the community from any potential future offences.
During the sentencing, Recorder Peter Cooke described the offences as having a “horrific nature,” emphasizing the grotesque and manipulative manner in which Boyd committed these acts. He criticized Boyd for refusing to face cross-examination by choosing not to give evidence during the trial, highlighting a lack of remorse and insight into the damage caused to his victims.
Recorder Cooke stated, “You did not have the courage to go into the witness box to face cross-examination. You have no insight and no remorse for the damage you have done to your victims. This is a case where there is no mitigation. Inevitably, the sentence here must be very long indeed.”
Prosecutor Tony Stanford revealed that the assaults occurred between 2000 and 2005, a period during which both victims suffered profound psychological effects. The court heard that the victims’ lives had been deeply affected by Boyd’s actions, underscoring the lasting impact of his crimes. Boyd did not provide any evidence or testimony during the proceedings, further emphasizing his refusal to confront the allegations directly.
