WELTON RAPIST RALPH PATTEN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ABUSING TEENAGE GIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Welton, Ralph Patten, a 57-year-old man from Dunholme Road, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years at Lincoln Crown Court for heinous crimes committed against a teenage girl.The court heard that Patten had deliberately exploited his young victim for his own sexual gratification, actions that have left a lasting impact on her life.
Recorder Andrew Easteal, who presided over the case, emphasized the severity of Patten’s misconduct.
He stated that Patten, despite being an articulate and intelligent individual, displayed a disturbing lack of remorse and was characterized by manipulative, ruthless, and self-absorbed behavior.
The judge’s words underscored the predatory nature of Patten’s actions and the betrayal of trust involved.
Patten faced multiple charges, including rape, two counts of indecency with a child, and indecent assault.
He had denied all allegations, but following a trial at Stoke on Trent Crown Court last year, a jury found him guilty of the charges.
As a result of his conviction, Patten was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was also subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety.
The prosecution, led by Amy Earnshaw, detailed the gravity of Patten’s crimes.
She revealed that Patten had raped the girl on three separate occasions when she was only 15 years old.
These assaults led to her becoming pregnant, and she subsequently gave birth to a child.
The court was also informed that Patten had indecently touched the girl and coerced her into performing a sex act in exchange for money, further illustrating the manipulative and exploitative nature of his conduct.
Miss Earnshaw described the victim as a “vulnerable” young girl who was significantly affected by the trauma inflicted upon her.
The case has brought to light the devastating consequences of abuse and exploitation, and the court’s decision aims to serve justice for the young victim and protect others from similar harm.
