WILTSHIRE SEX OFFENDER GETS 22 YEARS FOR HISTORIC CHILD ABUSE
On Thursday, 31 July, at Swindon Crown Court, Stefon Winter, aged 73 from Goatacre near Calne, received multiple convictions involving child sex offences. He was found guilty in March 2024 of two counts of indecent assault by penetration against a five-year-old girl in the 1980s.
In a subsequent trial held in July, Winter was convicted of two counts of buggery and three indecent assaults on a 13-year-old boy, with these offences occurring between 1987 and 1989.
The court did not deem his crimes serious enough for a life sentence and sentenced Winter to 22 years in prison.
The judge also expressed regret over the lengthy waiting period for the victims caused by court system delays, and Winter was sentenced under legislation applicable at the time the offences occurred.
Additionally, Dino Nocivelli, a Leigh Day human rights partner, is representing one of Winter’s victims in a civil claim for justice.
Nocivelli stated, “While this sentence provides some justice and closure for Winter’s victims after all these years, nothing can ever undo his actions.
This case highlights the importance of victims coming forward, even years after the abuse has taken place.
We represent one of the survivors of Winter’s crimes against children in their pursuit of justice and closure.”
