MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND IN BIRKENHEAD
A MAN who kicked and stamped on a former girlfriend after she threw a glass in his face has been jailed for three years seven months.A judge told Simon Gill: "The use of a foot to someone lying defenceless on the ground increases the seriousness of the offence." Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday that in the early hours of April 30, Amii Durkin was in Sherlocks bar in Birkenhead town centre as was Gill, who was argumentative as she was with a man.
Gill would not leave her alone and she threw a glass in his direction which apparently cut him on his right cheek and she walked off into Conway Street.
She realised he was following and began to run but he caught up and knocked her to the ground, said Geoffrey Fryar, prosecuting.
He then kicked and stamped on her before walking away.
Horrified witnesses rang 999 but meanwhile Gill angrily came back and repeatedly kicked Miss Durkin in the head and face.
Miss Durkin suffered swelling and cuts to her face and a fractured cheekbone and was detained in hospital overnight.
Gill, 33, of Statham Road, Prenton, denied wounding with intent but changed his plea to guilty after the trial began.
