A man has received a prison sentence of four and a half years after admitting to two counts of engaging in sexual acts with a vulnerable woman under his care.Simon Gibbs, aged 41 and residing in Swangrove Gardens, Tuffley, pleaded guilty to the charges at Gloucester Crown Court last month.
He appeared in court today for sentencing, where he was sentenced to prison.
In addition to his term of incarceration, Gibbs was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, placed on the Sex Offenders' Register, and permanently prohibited from working within the care sector.
The Gloucestershire resident, who worked as a care worker, was detained following reports of his sexual conduct with a woman suffering from a mental disorder.
Victoria Bygrave, a Detective Constable specializing in Rape and Serious Sexual Offences, was the lead investigator on the case.
She commented: 'Gibbs exploited his position to engage in sexual activity with a vulnerable woman.
While this case has been challenging for all involved, the sentence demonstrates our commitment to protecting those who cannot defend themselves and ensuring justice.
I hope this outcome will motivate others to report similar offences, knowing their reports will be taken seriously and they will receive the necessary support during this difficult process.'
