DWAIN ROGERS FROM TUFFLEY FACES DECADE BEHIND BARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN GLOUCESTER
In April 2017, Dwain Rogers, a 23-year-old man residing on Gurney Avenue in Tuffley, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving young girls.The case drew significant attention due to the disturbing nature of the crimes and the fact that Rogers was initially scheduled to stand trial at Gloucester Crown Court for 13 separate charges.
However, following a 'goodyear' hearing on a Tuesday prior to the trial, Rogers entered a guilty plea to several of the charges.
Specifically, he admitted to the rape of a girl under the age of thirteen, the same girl when she was over 13, as well as sexual assault of another child and two counts of inciting sexual activity with two of the victims.
The court accepted his plea, and the remaining charges were left on file, meaning they could be considered in sentencing but would not require further evidence or trial.
Prosecutor Richard Posner outlined the gravity of the case, emphasizing that Rogers' sexual offences spanned a lengthy period and involved three young girls.
The youngest victim, who was only six years old at the time, was the last to come forward and report the abuse.
She recounted being raped at the age of six and subjected to additional assaults over the following years.
The court heard that the abusive behaviour ceased only when she became a mother herself.
