In a disturbing case that has shocked residents of Yeovil, Simon Galliott, born on September 8, 1975, and residing on Westfield Road, was convicted of a heinous act involving a defenseless dog.The incident, which took place on October 11, 2008, involved Galliott shooting his then-partner's Staffordshire bull terrier, named Jake, directly in the eye with an air pistol, causing severe injury and immense suffering.
According to court reports, Galliott's actions were triggered after an altercation where Jake reportedly became overly excited and bit an 11-year-old child.
In a display of aggression, Galliott allegedly flew into a rage, went upstairs to retrieve his air rifle, and returned to the scene.
The court heard that he goaded the dog before firing the weapon, deliberately targeting Jake's eye.
The injury was so severe that Jake's eye had to be surgically removed, leaving the dog permanently scarred and in pain.
Despite the severity of the attack, Galliott received a relatively lenient sentence.
