The incident, which took place on October 11, 2008, involved Galliott shooting his then-partner's Staffordshire bull terrier, named Jake, directly in the eye with an air pistol, causing severe injury and immense suffering.

According to court reports, Galliott's actions were triggered after an altercation where Jake reportedly became overly excited and bit an 11-year-old child. In a display of aggression, Galliott allegedly flew into a rage, went upstairs to retrieve his air rifle, and returned to the scene.
