FERRYHILL MAN JAILED FOR 16 WEEKS FOR ASSAULTING WOMAN
A County Durham man has been jailed for a total of 16 weeks after being convicted of assaulting a woman.
Simon Dawbney, 47, of no fixed abode, who is from Ferryhill, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on October 2.
He was found guilty of two counts of assault by beating on August 8.
The court said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified, citing persistent offending.
For the August 7 offence, Dawbney received six weeks in prison.
For the August 8 offence, he received a consecutive 10-week sentence.
He was also fined £40 after admitting to damaging a plant pot on July 21, and ordered to pay £650 in prosecution costs.
No separate penalty was imposed for other criminal damage.
