EX-GREATER MANCHESTER COUNCILLOR JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENCY
A former councillor for Greater Manchester has received a three-year community order after admitting to the creation of indecent images involving a child.
Simon Carter, who served as the representative for Bury Council’s Tottington ward starting in 2012, faced 16 charges linked to this offense.
On 4 September, he appeared before Bolton Crown Court, where he was imposed a supervision order valid for three years.
He is also mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of five years.
As part of his sentence, Carter, a former member of the council’s standards committee, must participate in a sex offender treatment program and is prohibited from working with anyone under 18.
It was officially confirmed during the court hearing that Carter, age 53, of Milldale Road in Leigh, admitted guilt to the charges, leading to the sentence reflecting the severity of his conduct.
