JAIL FOR JEALOUS SWINDON MAN CAUGHT BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER AGAIN
A jealous man from Swindon was once again sent to prison after breaching a restraining order which prevented him contacting his ex-partner.Shohidur Rahman, of Faringdon Road in Swindon, was caught attempting to contact his ex on June 15.
He faced Swindon Magistrates' Court just over a week later, where he was sentenced to prison for 16 weeks for the attempt to breach a restraining order after conviction, and a further 6 weeks for the original offence of stalking re-sentenced.
This made the overall length of the sentence 22 weeks.
The 44-year-old was also fined a surcharge to fund victim services of £128, as well as to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Rahman, of Faringdon Road, had also been charged with further charges including harassment - breach of a restraining order on conviction and attempt to breach a restraining order after conviction - but these were withdrawn in favour of another offence.
A further five year restraining order was made, preventing him from contacting his ex-partner directly or indirectly or attending an address in Stratton.
The previous community order from July 23, 2020, was also revoked.
This was not the first time Rahman was jailed for breaching the restraining order.
The judge at a hearing in April 2021 was told that Rahman had a history of harassing his ex-partner.
In 2013, he was convicted of nine breaches of a non-molestation order preventing him from contacting her.
He then left the UK for a number of years.
Seven years later, in July 2020, he received a suspended prison sentence for stalking his ex-partner.
On one occasion he was discovered by the police hiding in a divan bed frame in her garden.
Within months he’d breached a restraining order imposed by the magistrates and was sent to prison for six months in October.
After he harassed his former partner again, it led to the hearing at Swindon Crown Court in April 2021.
At that hearing, his former partner told the court that she was "fed up", and added: "All I want is for Mr Rahman to leave me alone." Jailing Rahman for 14 months, Judge Jason Taylor QC told him: “You need to move on and you need to leave your former partner alone.
Do you understand that?
Because otherwise, Mr Rahman, the sentences are just going to get longer.”
