SHINGARA NANGLU FROM KINGSTANDING JAILED FOR PREDATORY SEX OFFENCES IN WOLVERHAMPTON

In a significant case that has spanned decades, justice has finally been served for two victims of a predatory paedophile, Shingara Nanglu, who resides in Kingstanding. The 64-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years in prison after a Wolverhampton Crown Court trial concluded that he committed serious sexual offences against children several decades ago.

Shingara Nanglu, who moved to England in July 1975 and lived on Epwell Road in Kingstanding, was convicted of multiple heinous crimes. The court heard that he had twice raped a young boy when the child was between the ages of six and eleven, during the late 1970s and early 1980s. These assaults took place in different addresses within Wolverhampton, where the victim was subjected to repeated abuse at the hands of Nanglu.

In addition to the rape charges, Nanglu was found guilty of indecently assaulting the same boy. The court also convicted him of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl in the late 1980s. Both victims testified that the assaults occurred within their own homes, adding a layer of betrayal and trauma, as the abuse was perpetrated in what should have been safe, familiar environments.

Throughout the trial, Nanglu, who worked in a factory and on the railways until his retirement in 2010, maintained that he had no sexual interest in children and denied any homosexual tendencies. However, Judge Michael Challinor was unequivocal in his remarks, stating, “You lied and lied to the jury and the victims have had to relive this ghastliness while you sat in the dock saying they were lying.”

The judge further condemned Nanglu’s actions, emphasizing the predatory nature of his crimes. “You harassed the boy for your own sexual gratification whenever you could and threatened to come for him if he told anybody what had happened. He held all this in until he was old enough to face you,” Judge Challinor said. He highlighted the profound and lasting psychological damage inflicted upon the victims, describing it as incalculable and stating that Nanglu had “practically ruined his life” and caused “extreme distress” to the girl.

Expressing admiration for the bravery of the victims, the judge praised their courage in coming forward and giving evidence against Nanglu. As a gesture of recognition, he ordered that each victim receive £500 from public funds, saying, “I hope you can take some comfort from the fact that the jury believed you.” The sentencing marks a significant step in delivering justice for the victims and underscores the importance of holding offenders accountable, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred.
