Shaun Watt, aged 39 and from Grantham, was found guilty of the murder of his partner, Dolly Gregory, at their residence on January 1.
The court was informed that Watt attacked Miss Gregory following the revelation that she intended to leave him, which led to her death due to head trauma.
He admitted guilt and was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 17 and a half years before he could be considered for parole.
After the assault, Watt attempted to hang himself twice using a washing line.
Dolly Gregory’s family, including her parents Mandy and Jim Smith, expressed their sorrow, stating: "We are relieved that he will serve at least 17-and-a-half years before parole consideration.
He deserves that, but we have lost Dolly forever and will never get her back."
