ACCRINGTON MAN JAILED FOR THREATS AND VIOLENT ASSAULTS
Shaun Wareing, aged 33, was involved in multiple violent incidents and criminal behavior which resulted in a series of court hearings and sentencing. The court heard that he had threatened to kill his former partner, telling her in a phone call twice that he would murder her, an action she believed he was capable of carrying out.
A recorded phone call was played in court where Wareing clearly said, 'I am going to murder you'.
Later that evening, Wareing was spotted outside the Bee's Knees pub in Accrington where CCTV footage showed him setting fire to a face mask in the pub’s foyer.
Although the fire was quickly contained, scorch marks remained on the carpet.
Wareing was arrested that same night and initially denied making any threats to the victim, claiming he did not believe she was working at the pub that day.
Additionally, during court proceedings, Wareing admitted to causing injuries to Kevin Malone at the Albion Ale House in Clayton-le-Moors, where he punched and hit Malone with his knee, leaving him with a fractured eye socket and bleeding.
Wareing was also involved in an altercation at Blackburn bus station, during which he was on the receiving end of serious violence from two groups of males, and was caught on CCTV directing abuse towards a group before escalating the incident.
He was handed a custodial sentence of 10 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to complete a 120-day alcohol and abstinence monitoring program, a six-month alcohol treatment requirement, 20 rehabilitation activity days, 180 hours of unpaid work, and to pay £300 in compensation to Kevin Malone.
The judge described Wareing's threats and violent actions as sinister and appalling, highlighting the danger his behavior posed to others and himself.
Wareing pleaded guilty to all the offences and his conduct was characterized as having a 'Jekyll and Hyde' nature when sober compared to when intoxicated.
