LLANDRINDOD SEX OFFENDER TO BE SENTENCED AT CROWN COURT
A REGISTERED sex offender is to be sentenced at the crown court after police discovered prohibited images and evidence of him having deleted his internet history on a tablet.Shaun George Jones, aged 54, admitted one charge of breaching a sexual harm prevention order at court this week.
Magistrates sitting in Llandrindod Wells on Wednesday, August 28, informed Jones that their sentencing powers were insufficient and that he will be sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court next month.
Jones, of Parkdene, Temple Street, Llandrindod, breached the order – made by the same court in July 2020 – on June 11, 2023.
He deleted material from a Samsung A8 tablet, which he was prohibited from doing by the July 2020 order.
Prosecutor James Sprunks stated that Jones, a registered sex offender with a sexual harm prevention order valid until 2030, had visited a website selling baby-sized dolls and had prohibited images and videos on his device, with his internet history erased.
Jones claimed he didn’t understand why he was viewing such material but acknowledged the breach.
His defense argued that the breach from the previous order, from 2000, was the first since then.
The case was committed to Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, where Jones is expected to appear on September 25.
The bench indicated that their powers were not sufficient for sentencing, and the case was transferred accordingly.
