‘APPALLING’ STALKER ESCAPES JAIL AFTER INSTALLING COVERT CAMERA IN HIS EX-WIFE’S HOME
Shaun Dougan, a man from Clooney Road in Ballymena, was involved in a severe stalking campaign against his ex-wife.
During the incident, he cable-tied a tracking device to her car and installed a covert camera in her home for a two-month period.
The court heard that his actions caused her significant fear, alarm, and distress.
Dougan was sentenced in June to an eight-month jail term, which was later replaced by an Enhanced Combination Order (ECO) after an appeal.
The judge, Philip Gilpin, in his ruling, described Dougan’s behaviour as “deplorable,” yet took into account that Dougan was suffering from depressive illness which led to delusional beliefs related to his wife and children.
As part of the new order, Dougan was ordered to complete two years on probation and 100 hours of community service.
The court emphasized that any breach of the ECO or restraining order would result in him facing an immediate custodial sentence.
