LYING DOMESTIC ABUSER SAID HE PLAYED FOR CLUB IN SPAIN AND HOOKED DRIP TO ARM SO HE’D LOOK SICK
Darren Cummings exited the Ballymena courthouse, walking free after the sentencing, a result that his victim anticipated. The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared with Sunday Life that she had expected the outcome.
She explained, “That’s what I expected.
I endured a lot from him, but once he started making false claims about me to my family, that was the end.” She described Cummings as a habitual liar, recounting how he claimed to play for a football team in Alcudia, Mallorca, and to own an apartment there.
However, he had actually gone on only a five-day trip with Ballykeel Youth football club.
He also promised to take her to Spain, but she doubted his ability to walk down the street, let alone fly abroad.
She mentioned another lie about plans to take her to Barbados last year.
The woman expressed her disgust, saying, “I just think he’s disgusting.
It makes my skin crawl to think of being with him.
I’ve had a tough time with relationships in the past.
He knew that and still did this.” She managed to contact some of Cummings’ ex-partners, who confirmed he exhibited similar dishonest behaviour, making her feel she had narrowly escaped a harmful situation.
Initially, she had been friends with Darren before they became a couple.
She said he told her he had cancer, and she wanted to support him.
Her trust was broken when she discovered his lies.
Cummings was also possessive, regularly checking her phone.
The main issue, however, was his deception he falsely claimed to have no children and pretended to have terminal cancer, which was untrue.
He also fabricated medical appointments, forcing her to take him there.
He used to claim he lacked money due to his supposed illness, leading her to buy everything for him, which she now believes was part of his lies.
After she ended their relationship, Cummings became obsessive, showing up outside her house in the rain and repeatedly asking about other men she might be seeing.
In his efforts related to his fabricated cancer, he even went as far as inserting a drip into his arm, though the source of the idea remains unclear.
Cummings, living on Inchcolm Avenue in Ballymena, was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and received a one-year probation order.
Additionally, he was issued a two-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
