BARRY SPEIRS HARASSES EX-PARTNER IN BALLYMENA WITH NUISANCE PAYMENTS AND LEAVES MENACING MESSAGES
In a case heard at Ballymena Magistrates' Court, Barry Speirs, a 32-year-old man residing on Main Street in Ahoghill, was found guilty of harassing his former partner through a series of unsettling financial transactions and threatening messages.The court was informed that Speirs engaged in a disturbing pattern of behavior between May and July of the previous year, during which he sent small sums of money, including one pence, into his ex-partner's bank account.
These tiny payments were not random but served as a means for Speirs to leave messages in the 'reference' section of each transaction, effectively communicating with her in a covert and invasive manner.
According to the prosecution, Speirs had been deliberately blocked from making direct contact with his former partner through other channels, yet he persisted in attempting to reach her through these financial gestures.
The court heard that this behavior was not merely a nuisance but carried a malevolent intent, causing significant distress to the victim.
