SHAUN BROWNLESS COUNDON HORSE TRADER AND ANIMAL NEGLECTOR SENTENCED
Shaun Brownless, a resident of Coundon in Bishop Auckland, has been found guilty of neglecting multiple animals under his care, including dogs and horses.The conviction stems from his failure to properly care for these animals, which resulted in unnecessary suffering.
Brownless, born on 27 February 1985, and known for his background as a traveller and a violent criminal, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in a court hearing.
The court proceedings revealed that Brownless neglected the animals by not investigating or addressing the underlying causes of their poor health and condition.
As a consequence of his neglect, the animals, which included several litters of puppies, were seized from his possession.
Among the animals taken from him were a variety of dogs: a chocolate-coloured female bull breed, a white brindle male lurcher, a tan male lurcher, a black and white female lurcher, a black and tan female Rottweiler, a litter of spaniel puppies, a tan male cocker spaniel, a female pregnant tan and white cocker spaniel, and a red female Labrador.
In addition to the dogs, Brownless was also associated with horses, which were part of his neglect case.
The animals in question included horses owned by Shaun and Lyndsey Brownless, his wife.
The court heard that the neglect was severe enough to warrant the animals' removal from his care.
Brownless’s guilty plea was taken into account during sentencing, which included a requirement for him to complete 250 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £4,895 to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and a victim surcharge of £95.
