PREDATOR WHO RAPED AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED TWO WOMEN WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES JAILED
A 70-year-old man from Accrington has received a life imprisonment sentence following convictions for raping and sexually assaulting two women who were considered vulnerable. The two women, who did not know each other, came forward with allegations against Nawaz, each victimized on separate occasions.
Nawaz’s criminal record includes previous convictions for sexual offenses, with incarcerations in 1982 for rape and in 1988 for sexual offenses, both involving teenage victims.
During his sentencing at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Robert Altham characterized Nawaz as an ‘extremely dangerous, predatory sexual offender.’ A life sentence was handed down, with Nawaz ordered to serve a minimum of 13 years and 362 days before being eligible for parole.
One victim was a woman in her twenties with learning difficulties, whom Nawaz raped and sexually assaulted in his vehicle.
The second victim, in her forties and also with learning difficulties, was assaulted at Nawaz’s residence and her own home.
Initially, Nawaz denied the charges and was scheduled for trial at Burnley Crown Court.
However, both victims testified and were cross-examined, leading Nawaz to admit guilt to six counts of rape, six counts of sexual assault, and two counts of assault by penetration.
