LANARKSHIRE MAN CLEARED OF SEXUALLY ABUSING THREE YOUNG GIRLS
A man from Motherwell has been acquitted of sexually abusing three young girls.During his trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Sean Gray maintained his innocence, asserting that he had been "set up." The alleged victims testified that they were assaulted while sleeping on a couch during overnight visits to Gray’s residence in Viewpark.
The jury convicted Gray of abusing one girl, who was 13 years old, but found insufficient evidence to convict him of the charges related to the other two girls.
Because of rules requiring corroboration, Sheriff Linda Nicolson did not uphold the guilty verdict and directed that Gray be acquitted of that charge as well.
Gray, aged 28, responded, “It’s lies, simple as that.
It’s a set-up.” The court heard that the girl, then 13, shared an L-shaped couch with Gray in December 2015 and recounted how he began to molest her, expressing that she was frightened and tried to appear as if she was sleeping.
Gray denied the allegations, insisting they were false and that he was being falsely accused.
