SCOTT TOWNSEND FROM SWINDON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENCE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Swindon, 30-year-old Scott Townsend from Beechcroft Road was found guilty of a series of violent and sexual offenses that left a woman severely injured and traumatized. The incident, which took place in April 2023, involved a brutal assault that culminated in a fractured nose and multiple injuries to the victim.According to reports, the victim, a woman in her 20s, was socializing with a friend in Swindon town centre when she unexpectedly encountered a former classmate, who was later identified as Scott Townsend. During their interaction, Townsend suggested that they all go back to his residence for more drinks, a proposal that the woman and her friend accepted. They proceeded to Townsend’s home, where the trio continued drinking and socializing.
Less than an hour after arriving at Townsend’s property, the women decided to leave, having finished their drinks. As the victim attempted to exit, Townsend committed a sexual assault on her. She immediately told him to stop and to get off her, but he persisted. Despite her protests, he assaulted her a second time as she was trying to leave the premises. The situation escalated further when Townsend physically restrained her by putting her in a headlock. He then proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the face and upper body, causing significant injuries, including a fractured nose.
Fortunately, the victim’s friend, also a woman, managed to intervene and free her from Townsend’s grasp. The two women then fled the scene and contacted the police. Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, arresting Townsend shortly thereafter. He was subsequently charged with four criminal offenses related to the incident.
During the court proceedings at Swindon Crown Court earlier this year, Townsend pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court heard the details of the violent attack and the impact it had on the victims. On Friday, 23 May, Townsend was sentenced to a 21-month prison term, which was suspended for two years. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to complete 175 hours of unpaid community work and participate in 26 days of rehabilitation activities within the following year.
Additionally, Townsend was mandated to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the court’s concern for public safety. The case has left a lasting impression on the community of Swindon, highlighting the importance of addressing violence and sexual misconduct with strict legal consequences.
