MAN STRANGLED WIFE AFTER SHE TOLD HIM THEIR 19-YEAR MARRIAGE WAS OVER
A man named Scott Perry has been incarcerated following an assault on his wife at their North Yorkshire home.Perry, 48, was involved in a confrontation last November after a discussion over the end of their 19-year marriage.
The court heard that during an evening of drinking whisky, Perry’s partner announced she wanted to separate.
In response, Perry shouted and then physically assaulted her by grabbing her clothing and forcing her face into the kitchen floor.
The prosecutor described how Perry hit her on the head and then strangled her to the point where she struggled to breathe, feeling the ordeal lasted for an extended period.
After the attack, Perry fled, but the police were alerted by the woman’s screams, and he was arrested.
Perry claimed he had acted in self-defence and was initially released on conditional bail.
However, he breached this bail by returning to the property and knocking at the door the next day, leading to his re-arrest.
He later admitted to the charges of common assault and intentional strangulation and was sentenced to serve time in prison.
The victim reported that her life had been profoundly affected, with nightmares and flashbacks, and the kitchen had become a place of fear.
Her legal representative noted that the incident was isolated and resulted from a heated argument, with no injuries to her neck.
Perry expressed remorse for his behaviour.
The judge, Patrick Palmer, emphasized the gravity of the offences, noting the distress caused and the long-lasting emotional consequences for the victim.
Additionally, a five-year restraining order was granted, barring Perry from contacting the woman or visiting any address associated with her.
