MAN ATTACKED GIRLFRIEND THEN CONTACTED HER AFTER RELEASE
A domestic violence offender who assaulted his partner and attempted to confiscate her phone, despite being advised to leave her residence, later contacted her following his release from police custody.Scott Blackwood pleaded guilty to charges of assault and engaging in threatening or abusive behavior when he appeared before Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday, February 18.
The 40-year-old had also admitted to a third charge for contacting the complainant on the same day he was released on conditions that he later breached.
Blackwood, from Catrine, physically grabbed the woman by her clothing, struck her on the head, punched her in the torso while attempting to take her phone, and pushed her at a property in Netherthird on February 1, 2026.
He caused her distress by acting aggressively, refusing multiple requests to leave, shouting, and swearing.
Earlier, he admitted that he failed to comply with court-imposed conditions not to approach or contact her after police discovered he had called her the same day he was released from custody under an undertaking to appear in court on February 11.
Court documents highlighted that the charges involved an aggravation due to the abuse of a current or former partner.
The prosecution's representative said: "The accused had attended the locus, the address of the complainer.
She noticed that the accused was drinking and the complainer allowed the accused in the living room, drinking alcohol for the next couple of hours.
“At 1.30am the conversation became heated with the accused.
The accused walked over, grabbed her dressing gown hood, pulled it over her head and punched the complainer to her chin.
"The complainer was upset and crying.
"He asked why she was crying.
The accused was described continuing to be abusive to the complainer.
He tried to grab her phone.
“She opened the front door, the accused refused to leave.
“He became aggressive and pushed the complainer.
He knocked the phone out her hand.
“At that point she then dialled 999.
“The accused was traced nearby.
“He was arrested, cautioned and charged." Regarding the third charge, they stated: “The accused was at the police office and given undertaking conditions when released and the home address.
“The accused sent a message to the complainer at 5.50am and 6.55am.
“When police officers advised her he had been released and told her of his undertaking conditions, she told officers she had received a message already.
“The accused was rearrested and cautioned." Sheriff Maria Kicinski noted, “this is clearly concerning with his previous convictions".
Defence solicitor Martin Duffy said: "He appreciates his record is against him.
It has been quite a while since he served a sentence.
"I understand he has difficulty with drink, he worked with addiction services and did a detox in Woodland View.
“I would invite the court to defer sentence here.
He has his own property in Catrine.
There's no obvious need to be near to Cumnock." The sheriff decided to postpone sentencing and remanded him in custody pending further reports, saying, “Given your record and the incident, your status remains the same.” He is scheduled to return for sentencing at a later date.
