CATRINE RAPIST ABDUCTED AND INJURED WOMAN IN ATTACK
Hugh Herman, a resident of Catrine, has admitted to assaulting a woman and causing her injury by raping her after abducting her.He appeared at Glasgow’s High Court on October 24, where he pleaded guilty to a single charge of rape.
The court heard that on November 19, 2022, Herman detained and assaulted the victim at a property in Catrine.
While he denied other charges, he reached a plea agreement with prosecutors before trial, accepting not guilty pleas to 12 additional counts that included allegations of rape, assault, and threatening property damage with a chainsaw.
Herman's admitted actions included threatening the woman with a knife, forcing medication into her, removing her clothes, and covering her mouth with her clothing to stifle her noise.
He also taped her mouth and attempted to insert a sponge internally, ultimately raping her to her injury.
Defence counsel Paul Nelson announced that Herman would now be pleading guilty to charge 11 following procedural delays.
The Crown’s advocate Gregory Farrell stated the plea was acceptable, and Nelson requested that Herman’s existing bail conditions remain, given the serious nature of the charges.
The judge, Norman McFadyen, postponed sentencing to a later date, and Herman was remanded into custody.
After being taken from the courtroom, the judge expressed appreciation to the jury for their service, as their presence was no longer required.
