2011: MAN JAILED FOLLOWING RAPES
A MAN of 22 who twice raped a girl several years younger than himself has been jailed for nine years although a judge said he posed a low risk of re-offending.Scott Barnes, of Mason Road, Kidderminster, who admitted the rapes, was ordered to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period.
Judge John Cavell also made a sexual offences prevention order at Worcester Crown Court which forbids any contact with children under 16.
Prosecutor Stephen Davies said Barnes pressured the girl by threatening he would rape her if she did not give him sex.
He was arrested after she complained to her mother.
The court heard that he had a previous conviction for indecent assault in 2003 for groping a woman on a bus.
Abigail Nixon, defending, said there was no suggestion that he had groomed his victim.
He was from a troubled background and now expressed genuine remorse.
He had already spent 264 days in custody.
