GLOUCESTER RAPIST'S SENTENCE INCREASED TO 12 YEARS AT APPEAL
Following an appeal, a man convicted of rape was sentenced to an additional four years in prison after his initial sentence was deemed too lenient.Samuel Moulder, 34 years old, assaulted a woman twice in 2017—first in a hotel room and later at her house.
He received an eight-year prison term at Gloucestershire Crown Court in September 2022, which was increased to 12 years by the Court of Appeal, prompted by the Attorney General's Office.
During the appeal hearing on Wednesday, Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP stated that the longer sentence sent a clear warning to sex offenders.
The court was told that Moulder had been aggressive during both assaults.
He is currently subject to a restraining order against his victim and is on the sex offenders register for life.
Mr Tomlinson commented: 'Rape remains a deeply serious crime, and this case has had severe consequences for the victim.
I welcome this extension of his imprisonment as it more properly reflects the enduring damage caused.
It also demonstrates that violent sexual offences will be met with decisive punishment.'
