FORMER PC WHO SEXUALLY HARASSED WOMAN WHILE OFF-DUTY BARRED FROM POLICING
A former police officer who engaged in sexual harassment toward a woman at a house party while off-duty was on course for dismissal had he not voluntarily resigned, a gross misconduct hearing panel determined. The hearing, held yesterday (Monday, 1 December) at Police Headquarters in Quedgeley, Gloucester, examined an incident involving PC Oliver Wilson that occurred at a gathering in Frampton on Seven in September 2023.
According to reports, his inappropriate conduct led to him being asked to leave the premises, after which he became confrontational.
The ex-officer then became involved in a physical altercation with a man, resulting in minor injuries to both parties.
The Professional Standards Department was later alerted to the incident.
Although PC Wilson faced no criminal charges, proceedings for gross misconduct were initiated.
The panel overseeing the hearing found that the former officer violated the College of Policing’s Standards of Professional Behaviour regarding Discreditable Conduct, Authority, Respect, and Courtesy.
They concluded that he would have been dismissed if he had not already resigned.
As a result, his name will now be listed on the Police Barred List.
Deputy Chief Constable Katy Barrow-Grint emphasized: “Police officers are expected to meet high standards both on and off duty.
There is no place within policing for any inappropriate or violent sexual behaviour, and had PC Wilson not resigned, he would have faced immediate dismissal.”
