MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR AND ASSAULT
A Leyburn man has been jailed for controlling behaviour towards his partner.Samuel Matthew Hammond was also convicted of sharing an intimate photograph without permission, intending to cause upset, as well as for assaulting a police officer and damaging property.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Hammond, aged 30 and residing on Dale Grove in Leyburn, engaged in abusive behavior over a period of six months, during which he assaulted his former partner multiple times.
The assault on the police officer occurred in Romanby, Northallerton, on March 2.
Hammond was sentenced to 30 months in prison at York Crown Court on Wednesday.
On the day of his sentencing, Hammond admitted to three charges controlling behavior, police assault, and criminal damage after initially denying them.
In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay £200 in compensation for damaging his ex-partner’s phone.
