HAVERFORDWEST SEX OFFENDER SAMAN OSMANZADEH JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED CHILD ABDUCTIONS AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS

In September 2014, a disturbing case unfolded in Haverfordwest involving Saman Osmanzadeh, a 25-year-old Kurdish national whose reckless and predatory actions led to his conviction and subsequent imprisonment. Osmanzadeh was found guilty of attempting to abduct two 15-year-old girls from the streets of Haverfordwest, with the incidents occurring just three days apart, highlighting a pattern of concerning behavior.

His actions culminated in a trial at Swansea Crown Court, where the jury unanimously convicted him of two counts of attempted abduction and two counts of sexual assault. The court heard that Osmanzadeh had approached the young girls with the intent to force them into his vehicle under the false pretense of offering them a lift home, ostensibly for their safety. These attempts to lure the girls into his car demonstrated a clear predatory intent, and the court was told that his behavior was both calculated and alarming.

The first incident took place on November 26, 2013, near Crundale Park, when Osmanzadeh approached a girl walking home. He attempted to put his arm around her and tried to persuade her to get into his car, but she resisted his advances. The second incident involved a girl waiting for her boyfriend at Swan Square in Haverfordwest. Osmanzadeh approached her, complimented her by calling her beautiful, and twice kissed her on the cheek. As he attempted to persuade her to enter his vehicle, she became visibly shaken with fear. When her boyfriend arrived on the scene, Osmanzadeh ceased his efforts and left.

Osmanzadeh, a father of two with a third child expected next month, was remanded in custody following his conviction. His legal representative, Frank Phillips, described the defendant’s time in detention as extremely challenging, citing his isolation due to the nature of his offenses and language barriers. The court was also informed that a member of Osmanzadeh’s family had approached one of the victims’ sisters, attempting to persuade her to withdraw her police report. Judge Paul Thomas emphasized the seriousness of such interference, warning that any future attempts to influence witnesses would result in severe consequences.

During sentencing, Judge Thomas expressed concern over Osmanzadeh’s apparent attraction to young girls and his sexual motivations. While acknowledging that Osmanzadeh had the capacity to exercise more restraint, the judge found his behavior to be deeply troubling. The defendant’s ongoing denial of his actions and refusal to accept responsibility were noted as significant concerns for his future conduct. Despite being described as a generally good family man, the judge underscored the importance of protecting the community and upholding societal standards by condemning Osmanzadeh’s conduct.

As part of his sentence, Osmanzadeh was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was prohibited from working with children or vulnerable individuals. The court’s decision aimed to serve as a clear message that such predatory behavior would not be tolerated in Haverfordwest or elsewhere, reinforcing the need for vigilance and community safety in the face of such disturbing offenses.
