MAN JAILED FOR 13 YEARS AFTER RAPING WOMAN AT KNIFEPOINT
A man has been sent to prison after being convicted of multiple offences including rape, sexual assault, and coercive control.Sam Knight, 38, from Swindon, received a 13-year jail term along with an additional four years on extended licence after a trial at Swindon Crown Court last month.
The offences occurred in May of the previous year, during which Knight threatened the victim with a knife and demanded sex, culminating in rape.
He also committed a sexual assault on her on a separate occasion.
Knight sought to dominate the victim’s life by making threats such as throwing acid, preventing her from seeing friends or family, taking her phone away to isolate her, and forcing her to wear clothes he had purchased.
Although he admitted to controlling and coercive behaviour, he denied the rape and sexual assault allegations, which required the victim to recount her experiences multiple times in court.
The jury returned a verdict of guilty on counts of rape and sexual assault, ensuring Knight will serve significant time in prison.
The case was brought to light when the victim courageously approached a police officer in public, which led to his immediate arrest.
Commenting after the sentencing, Detective Constable Corrina Wiltshire from Swindon CID said: “This was a traumatic time for the victim, and this conviction and sentence shows we will not take lightly any incidents of domestic violence and abuse.
“Knight was a serial offender, making the victim’s life miserable for his own gratification and subjecting her to his cruel behaviour.
“I would like to take this opportunity to commend her for her bravery in reporting the incidents to the police initially, and for her openness in discussing what must have been an incredibly difficult experience for her.
“Knight has now been jailed for 13 years, and I hope this sends a powerful message to victims of rape or sexual assault that we will do all we can to support them and ensure perpetrators are put before the courts.”
