SAM JOHN ANDREWS HORRIFIC CRUELTY IN BARRHEAD AND NEILSTON REVEALED

Sam John Andrews, born on December 17, 1988, has been convicted of heinous animal cruelty crimes that took place in the towns of Barrhead and Neilston, both located in the Greater Glasgow area. The disturbing incident was captured on CCTV footage, which showed Andrews dragging and physically assaulting his terrified pet dog, a Staffy named Scooby.

In the footage, Andrews was seen forcefully pulling Scooby backwards on his lead along a street in Barrhead. The footage then revealed him repeatedly striking the dog with his hand and using the metal lead as a weapon, delivering approximately 30 blows. The assault caused Scooby to cower and shake in fear, clearly distressed by his owner’s violent behavior.

Further footage depicted Andrews kicking Scooby to the ground and stamping on his back, actions that inflicted significant pain and suffering. The cruelty escalated when Andrews retrieved a lit cigarette lighter from his pocket and held it close to Scooby’s ears, tormenting the helpless animal with a naked flame. This act of torment was particularly disturbing, highlighting Andrews’ malicious intent.

Witnesses reported that Andrews was seen dragging Scooby along the street, striking him repeatedly, and forcing him into submission. The assault was only interrupted when a female friend, believed to have gone into a nearby shop, rejoined Andrews, bringing the attack to an end.

Following the incident, authorities were alerted, and police swiftly traced and arrested Andrews. The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) inspectors responded to the scene and rescued Scooby. Upon examination, they found the dog to be underweight and visibly frightened. Thanks to the efforts of the SSPCA, Scooby was rehabilitated and eventually found a new, loving home.

Andrews faced legal consequences for his actions. He pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, a charge that reflected the severity of his cruelty. His sentencing included a six-month jail term and a ten-year ban on owning or keeping animals, a restriction that is set to expire in February 2025.
