SAM FOWLER FROM WITNEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS IN OXFORDSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Witney, a man named Sam Fowler has been sentenced to prison for heinous sexual offenses committed against two young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a period of approximately 20 months, involved the abuse of victims as young as six years old, and have left a lasting impact on those involved.Sam Fowler, who resides on Bourton Close in Witney, was accused of repeatedly assaulting two female minors between the years 2007 and 2008. Despite his initial denial of the allegations, a jury found him guilty last month on three counts of sexual assault against a child under the age of 13. The victims, whose identities are protected by law, were subjected to these traumatic acts during a time when they were extremely vulnerable.
During the court proceedings, Fowler, now 24 years old, showed little emotion as the verdict was read, and he was informed that he would be serving a prison sentence. The court heard that during the incidents, Fowler performed sexual acts on both girls on multiple occasions. He also threatened the victims to silence them, warning them against revealing what had happened to anyone. These threats were intended to silence the victims and prevent them from seeking help or telling their families.
Judge Maria Lamb delivered the sentencing, describing the incidents as ‘humiliating and degrading’ for the victims. She emphasized the trauma they endured, stating, “They have gone through an ordeal with a trial. However gently and appropriately cross-examination was conducted, it was still an ordeal.”
Fowler was sentenced to a total of three years in prison. Specifically, he received a sentence of three months and 12 months to run concurrently for two of the sexual assault counts against one girl. Additionally, he was sentenced to an extra 12 months to run consecutively for another count of sexual assault against the second girl. Beyond his prison term, Fowler is required to sign the sex offenders register for the next ten years and pay a victim surcharge as part of his punishment.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of child sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims. The community of Witney and the wider Oxfordshire area continues to grapple with the aftermath of these disturbing events, and authorities remain committed to protecting vulnerable children from similar harm in the future.
