BEDFORD MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR STABBING WIFE TO DEATH
Sajeed Mahmood, aged 52, was found guilty of the murder of his wife Afsana Kosser, aged 35, in Bedford. The court was informed that his motive stemmed from jealousy and a desire to stop her from beginning a new life after she received the family home and custody of their children.
Mahmood, who arrived in the UK in 1994 using a counterfeit Pakistani passport, carried out the deadly assault on 11 April in Dudley Street, Bedford, just one day after the court’s decision.
He violently stabbed her 24 times, leading to her death.
Prior to calling emergency services—with a message stating, 'I have just killed my wife'—he also sent messages to family members admitting to the act.
During proceedings at Luton Crown Court, Mahmood acknowledged manslaughter but was ultimately convicted of murder.
Judge Michael Kay QC sentenced him to life in prison, with a minimum term of 25 years before parole eligibility.
The judge characterized the killing as a 'brutal attack—one launched in rage,' motivated by Mahmood’s jealousy and frustration, which deprived two young children of their mother.
The court further noted Mahmood’s self-centered and frustrated demeanor and his act of stalking his wife, all of which contributed to the tragic outcome.
