SAGAR GURUNG CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED RAPE IN READING
In a significant development in the case of sexual violence in Reading, Thames Valley Police successfully brought Sagar Gurung, a 26-year-old man from Salisbury Road, Reading, to justice.Following a thorough investigation and a subsequent trial at Reading Crown Court, Gurung was found guilty of two serious charges: attempted rape and sexual assault by penetration.
The incident in question took place in the early hours of November 6, 2022, when Gurung approached a woman in Queens Walk, a well-known area within Reading.
According to court records, the attack occurred between approximately 2:30 am and 3:00 am.
During this assault, Gurung attempted to commit rape and also subjected the victim to a sexual assault, actions that have caused significant concern within the local community.
After the attack, Gurung fled the scene, prompting a large-scale manhunt by law enforcement authorities.
His escape was short-lived, as he was apprehended on November 8, 2022, while allegedly preparing to leave the country.
The police acted swiftly, and he was formally charged with the offences the following day.
