JEALOUS MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT THREATS AND ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A jealous lover named Ryan Lancaster, who was in a two-year relationship with an 18-year-old woman, has been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm and making threats to kill. His actions included attempting to strangle his partner in a hospital car park after finding text messages indicating infidelity.
The court was told Lancaster became increasingly controlling and possessive, and his anger erupted when he discovered the messages on October 31 last year.
The woman ran to her car, and Lancaster followed, managing to get inside and begin strangling her, first from behind and then on the front seat.
Police intervened, and Lancaster was cautioned.
Later that day, he arranged to meet her suspected love rival outside a pub in Spennymoor, where a violent fight broke out.
Lancaster punched and karate-kicked the man, who was knocked unconscious and suffered a fractured cheekbone requiring surgery.
Subsequently, on November 16, Lancaster took his partner for a walk in the woods near her home, where he threatened to kill her, stating it was a "nice place to kill someone," spat in her face, and produced a six-inch bladed knife.
The woman feared for her life, praying he would not hurt her, and the incident had a lasting impact on her mental health.
Lancaster admitted to causing grievous bodily harm, common assault, and making threats to kill.
He was sentenced to five and a half years in a Young Offenders’ Institution.
The judge commended the woman for her evidence, emphasizing the devastating effect Lancaster's actions had on her.
