RAPIST RYAN BROWN GETS LONGER PRISON SENTENCE FOR SENDING SICK CARD TO VICTIM FROM JAIL
A rapist has received a longer prison sentence after sending his victim a card from prison that 'written by her dead baby'.Ryan Brown, formerly of Meltham, sent a handmade card addressed to 'mummy' to her home a few days after Mother's Day in March 2018.
Brown knew that the woman had experienced a stillbirth years earlier.
At the time, he was remanded at HMP Leeds awaiting sentencing for raping her, and it was the second time he contacted her from prison.
He was sentenced in May 2018 but subsequently continued to contact her, with a third message sent three months later.
Brown, who has since been transferred more than 100 miles to HMP Stafford, was sentenced to an additional two years.
Judge Tom Bayliss QC remarked: "It is difficult to think of a document that was more calculated to cause more distress to her." The first communication was a letter on February 9 last year, postmarked from Leeds and featuring a heart drawing with the words 'I love you'.
In it, Brown expressed love, discussed prison life, and asked her to accept his calls, also including a picture of a heart with her name.
The second communication was a letter on March 16, containing a handmade card saying 'I love you mummy'.
The court heard that Brown admitted to the offences during his interview, citing mental health issues like anxiety and bipolar disorder.
He has five prior convictions for 15 offences, including theft, assault, and harassment.
The prosecution highlighted that sending the letter about her child could have caused significant distress.
Brown, appearing via video, only spoke to plead guilty and to thank the judge.
The court was informed that he does not intend to return to Yorkshire after his release from prison.
