PORTLETHEN DENTIST FINED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ORDERED TO STAY AWAY FROM EX
A Portlethen dentist, Ruiadhri McKinnon, aged 34, has been fined and ordered to keep away from his former partner after admitting to domestic abuse.Court proceedings revealed that McKinnon pleaded guilty to a pattern of abusive behavior towards his ex-girlfriend, which included monitoring her online activity, slamming a door on her head and leg, and other aggressive acts.
Although accusations that he placed his hand over her mouth causing her to breathe restrictively and one allegation of pushing her onto the ground were dropped, he still admitted to the core abusive conduct.
The court heard that their relationship lasted about eight months before she decided to end it.
The abuse included calling her derogatory names after she posted a photo on social media, shouting at her for leaving the puppy outside, and slamming the door on her head when her head was between the door and frame, although she was not injured.
McKinnon continued to harass her via messages and calls after their relationship ended, often using their dog as a reason for contact.
His behavior was linked to mental health struggles following a spinal operation early in the relationship.
His defense team stated that he had been attending weekly sobriety meetings and seeking counseling to improve his behavior.
The court, recognizing his remorse and steps taken to address his actions, fined him £2,250 and imposed a non-harassment order banning contact with his ex-partner for five years.
Sheriff William Summers highlighted the seriousness of his offenses and the distress caused to the victim.
