PORTLETHEN MAN SENTENCED FOR STALKING VICTIM WITH REPEATED DRIVE-BY INCIDENTS
Leigh Inglis, aged 29, was convicted of stalking his victim by repeatedly driving past his family home in Portlethen late at night. The incident was recorded on the victim's doorbell security camera.
Due to ongoing issues stemming from a financial dispute, police were contacted after Inglis was seen driving in close proximity to the victim's residence on multiple occasions, including nights of August 15, August 18, and August 21.
Inglis was observed watching their house and parked nearby, alarming the family and prompting security measures.
In court, Inglis admitted to a stalking charge and was fined £350 by Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
The victim expressed that the sentence was "obviously not fitting" for the ordeal his family endured, feeling that the punishment should have been more severe.
Court proceedings revealed Inglis’s prior criminal history, mostly for road traffic offences, and previous legal issues related to unpaid debts, including a 2018 court order to repay over £4,000.
His defense argued that Inglis lives with his partner and children, is unemployed, and relies on a monthly allowance of £400 from his mother, suggesting he could pay the fine at £50 per month.
The court also noted Inglis's failed business ventures and previous legal disputes, highlighting a history of financial and personal misconduct.
