PORTLETHEN MAN ROSS TINDALL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN ABERDEEN
In February 2011, a man from Portlethen named Ross Tindall was sentenced to a three-year probation period after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with a 12-year-old girl. The court also ordered Tindall to be listed on the sex offenders’ register for the same duration, marking a significant legal action against his conduct.Ross Tindall, aged 20 and residing at 45 Broomfield Road in Portlethen, appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face charges related to his inappropriate interactions with a minor. The case revealed that Tindall had initially contacted the young girl through a social networking site, where they began communicating. During their online exchanges, Tindall and the girl exchanged mobile phone numbers, leading to a series of text messages that furthered their contact.
According to court reports, Tindall falsely claimed that the girl was 14 years old, which he used to justify his continued communication. The depute fiscal, Jonathan Kemp, stated that Tindall expressed romantic feelings towards the girl, telling her he loved her and even expressed a desire to marry her. Court documents also revealed that Tindall made inappropriate comments, including wishing she was in his bed, which added to the severity of his actions.
The situation escalated when the girl’s mother discovered the messages on her daughter’s phone. Confronted with this evidence, the mother took action, which ultimately led to Tindall’s arrest and court appearance. During proceedings, Tindall admitted to having sexual relations with the 12-year-old girl. Additionally, he faced a separate charge of engaging in lewd and libidinous behavior towards an 11-year-old girl, further highlighting the disturbing nature of his conduct.
Representing Tindall in court, his solicitor Frances Connor described him as an immature young man who had created an alternative world online. She emphasized that although he had been a loner, he had previously performed well academically and had secured employment. Connor suggested that Tindall’s online activities were a manifestation of his social difficulties, but the court’s focus remained on the seriousness of his offenses and the need for appropriate sentencing to protect the community.
