ROY DARVILL AND SON DARRAN DARVILL SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN WALTHAMSTOW
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Walthamstow, east London, a pensioner and his son have been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of children under their care over a span of two decades.Roy Darvill, aged 79, was found guilty of raping and indecently assaulting five young victims whose ages ranged from just two years old to 16.
These assaults occurred during his time as a foster carer in Walthamstow, with the abuse stretching from 1975 to 1995.
Darvill admitted to the charges and was subsequently sentenced to 16 years in prison, a punishment reflecting the severity and duration of his crimes.
His son, Darren Darvill, aged 49, was also implicated in the case.
He was convicted of indecently assaulting one of the victims, with the incidents taking place at the family home between 1984 and 1988.
Darren was sentenced to a two-year prison term, which was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
The sentencing took place at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The investigation into the allegations was initiated in November 2013, after a woman came forward to disclose that she had been abused by both Roy and Darren Darvill during her childhood.
This revelation prompted a thorough police inquiry that eventually identified four additional women who also accused Roy Darvill of abuse.
The evidence collected led to Roy Darvill’s arrest in December 2013.
He later pleaded guilty to a total of 30 offences on March 23, 2016, including one count of rape and 29 counts of indecent assault.
During the trial, Darren Darvill appeared as a co-defendant alongside his father.
He denied two counts of indecent assault but was ultimately found guilty after a trial.
The case has brought to light a long history of abuse within a family that was entrusted with the care of vulnerable children, leaving a lasting impact on the victims and the community of Walthamstow.
