2003: WALTHAMSTOW MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ASSAULT
2003: A man was described as 'disgusting' by a judge and received a three-year prison sentence after sexually abusing a vulnerable seven-year-old girl from Farnworth.Mohammud Ramankhan, aged 27, who was staying as a guest at a residence in Walthamstow, east London, enticed the young girl into his bedroom, placed his hands under her clothing, and pretended to conduct a medical examination during a game of 'doctors and nurses'.
He became the first individual to be extradited from the island of Mauritius after fleeing the UK shortly after the assault occurred in Walthamstow, returning to his home country.
Following the completion of his sentence, he will be deported to Mauritius.
During sentencing, Judge Martyn Zeidman, QC, described the case as 'disgusting' and an instance of indecent assault against a child of just seven years old.
The judge stated that the offense caused significant distress not only to the young girl but also to her mother and other family members.
He condemned Ramankhan’s betrayal of trust, highlighting that he molested the girl in the privacy of his bedroom, describing his conduct as 'disgusting behaviour.' The jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court convicted Ramankhan of indecent assault.
The incident took place while the girl was visiting Walthamstow, falling ill and resting in the living room after a doctor’s appointment on February 27, 2000.
Ramankhan, who was listening to music in his room, called the girl inside after noticing her standing outside his door.
Her mother observed her running out of Ramankhan’s bedroom and straight into her own, blocking the door behind her.
When asked what happened, the girl told her mother that Ramankhan had assaulted her.
Ramankhan denied the allegations and left the house.
A medical examination confirmed signs of sexual assault.
Authorities contacted Interpol, which led to the arrest of Ramankhan by local police on July 18 of the previous year, for extradition back to England to face charges.
He, of Winchester Road, Lower Edmonton, was ultimately convicted on one count of indecent assault.
