SUFFOLK CARE WORKER HANDED COMMUNITY ORDER OVER CHRISTMAS PARTY INCIDENT
A former Suffolk care home worker who put his hands round a woman’s waist and allegedly tried to kiss her during a Christmas party has been handed a community order.Twenty-eight-year-old Roy Thumma, who worked at the Bucklesham Grange care home, was attending a staff Christmas party at the Curve bar when he approached a woman at the buffet.
Ipswich Crown Court heard Thumma had put his hands round her waist and allegedly tried to kiss her without her consent.
Thumma of Crawford Avenue, Staines-upon-Thames, denied sexual assault but admitted a less serious offence of battery which took place on December 9 2022.
He was given a nine month community order, a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirement and 40 hours unpaid work.
He was also fined £400.
Sentencing Thumma, who has no previous convictions, Judge Martyn Levett said that he had been drinking at the Christmas party and didn’t remember anything about the incident.
Judge Levett said what happened should be a warning to members of the public about the disinhibiting effects of alcohol.
The court heard that Thumma no longer worked at the care home and had a new job as a chef.
