Kyran Smith, aged 29 and residing on London Road in Staines, was sentenced to a term of seven years and six months in prison during a hearing at Reading Crown Court on 23 January 2026.
He was convicted after a four-day trial held at the same court on 11 November 2025, on charges of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and sexual assault, with one count each.
The incident occurred in December 2022, when Smith and the victim, a woman now in her thirties, attended the same social gathering.
Following the event, both, along with others, left to spend the night at a hotel.
At around 2am, while the woman and others retired to their respective rooms, Smith went to the hotel reception and, through deception, obtained the victim’s room key.
While she was asleep, she was awoken by Smith, who was engaged in sexual assault in her bed.
She ordered him to leave, which he did after dressing, then returned the hotel key to reception before heading to his own room.
The following morning, the victim reported the assault to hotel staff and her friends and acquaintances present that night.
