HUNTINGTON SEX OFFENDER ROY DEAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND BLAMES OTHERS

In April 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Roy Dean, a resident of Huntington, who was found to have been downloading indecent images of children over a period of five years. The case was brought to light during a court hearing at York Crown Court, where it was revealed that Dean had a collection of more than 100 illegal images stored on his computer. Despite the evidence, Dean attempted to dismiss any sexual interest in minors, claiming that he was not the only person who used his computer and suggesting that others might have accessed his device.

Prosecutor Patrick Palmer outlined the details of the investigation, stating that after police examined Dean’s computer, they discovered a significant number of illicit images. Dean, aged 63 and residing on Broome Close in Huntington, admitted that he was the sole user of the desktop, which was the source of the illegal content. This admission was a key element in the case against him.

Roy Dean faced three charges related to possessing indecent images of children. During the court proceedings, he pleaded guilty to these charges, acknowledging his involvement. The judge, Simon Hickey, addressed Dean directly, emphasizing the ongoing demand for such images and the harm they cause. He remarked, “Until people like you stop looking at such images, the market in them continues to thrive,” highlighting the broader societal issue.

As part of his sentencing, Dean received an eight-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years. The court also ordered him to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activities, aiming to address underlying issues. Additionally, Dean was placed on the sex offenders register and subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that restricts his internet usage for the next ten years, in an effort to prevent further offenses.

Beyond his criminal activities, Roy Dean was known locally for his work as an artisan confectioner. He operated a stall at Shambles Market under the name That Fudge Guy for several years, where he sold a variety of over 50 different types of fudge. His stall was a popular fixture at the Newgate end of the market, with customers frequenting it every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Despite his business success, his criminal conduct has cast a shadow over his reputation in Huntington.
